Arduino Band Decoder

Arduino Band Decoder by VU2WJ — video thumbnail

Arduino band decoder with relays for external device control. It reads the frequency or band data from your transceiver and switches output relays according to defined rules. This lets you pass the band information to other devices, such as antenna switches, RX/TX filters, power amplifiers and transverters.

This project is based on the OK1HRA Arduino open-source code, heavily modified, assembled and tested by VU2WJ to suit the customisation needs at VU2OT (Figure 1). A typical application of this customised Arduino Band Decoder is shown below (Figure 2). Front panel design and shack layout by VU3YLI.

The 24 × 24 × 8 cm metal enclosure was taken from one of the oldest DDS VFO projects by VU2WJ; it was selected because it holds all the parts listed below with enough space for wiring. The front panel was moulded from a 3 mm black acrylic sheet by a local vendor.

The project also includes a modification of a 400 W solid-state marine PA, the FURUNO PA2500, for automatic LPF selection and dual antenna output switching with the Arduino Band Decoder. The front panels of both the Band Decoder and the PA have a 12-position rotary switch for automatic and manual switching of antennas and amplifier LPFs as required.
